You’re unique. You like to build and design things, yet you’re fascinated by computers and love to learn about and work on them. You know what that means? That computer engineering at Michigan Tech is the perfect degree for you! Our computer engineering degree will make you uniquely qualified to conceive, design, and integrate complete computer systems from scratch. Computer engineering is a growing field, and in our program you’ll learn through an innovative curriculum and gain a competitive edge whether you’re applying to graduate school or working in industry.
As a computer engineering major you can concentrate in:
- General purpose systems, theory, and enterprise
- Embedded systems
- Enterprise
Put your classroom skills into practice by working part-time in the local area with international corporations like GE Aviation and Ford Motor Company. These companies hire Michigan Tech students to fill critical positions in their IT areas.
Before you get ready to plunge into your computer engineering career, here are a few things you should know about the program…
- You can get involved in VLSI design, image processing, or micro-electronic materials research.
- Computer engineering faculty are readily available outside the classroom for additional help.
- You can get extra help or find a fun job at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Learning Center.
- Our computer engineering department provides the best opportunities in the nation for laboratory-based learning, real-world design, and engineering entrepreneurship.
- Every classroom has computer projection and internet access, while laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
- Classroom theory is reinforced by hands-on, discovery-based experiments as well as design projects that will prepare you for industry or advanced research.
Computer engineers can also get involved in the Enterprise Program. The computer and electrical engineering department even sponsors their own teams: Wireless Communication, Blue Marble Security, and Integrated Microsystems. In the fall, computer engineering will be starting another enterprise team called Automotive Computing Enterprise (ACE). ACE will focus on automotive electronics, sensors, and computing systems…yet another exciting way to have fun while learning and earning a computer engineering degree!
