Applicants to programs within the Visual and Performing Arts Department are required to submit additional materials as part of the application process. These materials will allow the faculty members reviewing your file to understand your goals and assess your creativity and self-motivation—attributes that, combined with your academics, will allow us to determine your future success in our programs.
The following information will help you prepare for this portion of the application process.
Essay Responses
Applicants to all Visual and Performing Arts programs
If you apply using the online application, you will be asked to answer these questions during the application process. If you apply using a paper application, please include your essay responses with your application.
Please provide a written response to each of the following questions (about 500 words, or one page each).
1. Discuss an experience that sparked your interest in this field.
2. What do you hope to do after college?
Portfolio of Creative Work
Applicants to Audio Production and Technology or Sound Design
You should send examples of projects that demonstrate your interest and abilities. You might want to include sketches, recordings of you playing a musical instrument, audio you created on the computer, art or drama class projects, pictures of shows you have been involved in, or any other works you believe are appropriate. Please provide us with quality copies of this work rather than sending us the originals. All work submitted will be returned to you.

Performance Audition
Applicants to Theatre and Electronic Media Performance
Auditions should total five to six minutes in length and include two contrasting performances. You may audition in person or by submitting a video or DVD of your work. Please note, an on-campus audition is not required—video auditions will be treated equally in terms of fulfilling this portion of the application process. While it is important to demonstrate your talent and training, don’t forget that we are equally interested in your potential as a performer. View our tips for auditioning to help you prepare.
