What’s the average GPA of incoming freshmen?
The average grade point average for incoming freshmen at Michigan Tech is 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

What are the typical incoming freshman’s ACT or SAT scores?
Average ACT composite: 25.6
Average SAT total: 1,783

What are the admission requirements?
Admission requirements vary by program, but incoming students are recommended to have taken (in high school) four years of mathematics, three years of natural science, four years of English, three years of social studies, and one year of computer literacy. A foreign language isn’t required, but two years is a good idea. See our recommended high school courses.

What are the admission deadlines?
Priority consideration for admission, financial aid, and scholarships is given to students who apply by January 15 of the year the student plans to enroll.

What AP, IB, and CLEP credits are accepted?
Michigan Tech will grant credit free of charge for AP, IB, and CLEP programs based on scores earned on the examinations. Official scores must be sent to Michigan Tech from the testing agency. 

What financial assistance is available?
Scholarships, grants, student loans, and work study are available. About 89 percent of Michigan Tech students receive some form of aid, amounting to more than $60 million awarded annually.

What are the tuition and fees?
Michigan Tech is a public university, so the tuition rate you are charged is based on your residency.

Room & board will vary slightly depending on the residence hall you are placed in as well as which meal plan you choose. 

What’s the average amount of debt graduates of Michigan Tech leave with?
The average debt of Michigan Tech graduates is $14,184. According to U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges 2007,” the average student attending Michigan Tech graduates with one of the lowest amounts of debt in the nation. A total of 47 percent of Michigan Tech graduates have no debt upon graduation.

What’s the career placement rate?
No less than 96 percent of our students have jobs in their chosen field, enroll in graduate school, or enlist in the military by the time they graduate. Nearly 350 companies from across the country visit Michigan Tech each year to recruit students for co-op, internship, and full-time job opportunities.

What’s the student/faculty ratio?
The student/faculty ratio is 11 to 1.
