planticipate
(v, plan-TISS-uh-pate)
When planning for college meets the anticipation of arriving on campus; like meeting other accepted students through the Husky Hub. Helping you get connected before you even get here. We do that.
Whether you’re excited, scared, nervous, or were ready to leave the house yesterday, it’s all good and we totally understand. Better yet, we want to help. If you and your family “planticipate” from the time of your acceptance, you’ll be in great shape for move-in weekend in August.
Be organized and read what we send you. Trust us, we wouldn’t mail it to you if it wasn’t important. We guarantee you’ll find answers to a lot of your (or your family’s) questions. So, keep an eye out for important details.
Action Packet
You’ll receive your Action Packet with your acceptance materials. This handy publication includes details on what you need to do now that you’ve been accepted, like paying your enrollment deposit and applying for on-campus housing. It’s also where you’ll find your login information for the Husky Hub—your personalized web portal where you can get updated personalized information about your financial aid, housing, and more. And it’s where you can meet other incoming students on Rendezvous—a site similar to Facebook but available only to accepted Michigan Tech students.
The Tech Guide
The Tech Guide is a filled with everything you need to know about enrolling at Michigan Tech. It’s mailed in the spring to students who have paid their enrollment deposit. In it, you’ll find a week-by-week guide with essential information, tips, important phone numbers, helpful web resources, and more.
COMPASS—Center for Orientation, Mentoring, Parents, and Academic Student Success
COMPASS is solely dedicated to making sure you have everything you need to get off to a great start at Michigan Tech. You’ll find things like academic support, Orientation information, the mentor network, and information on our Learning Communities.
Orientation
Our Orientation program is a very big deal. Held the week before classes begin, it’s one full week (that’s 10,080 minutes) of presentations, games, workshops, ice cream, entertainment, team-building exercises, and much more. There’s also great information for your family. You’ll also register for classes, meet with your academic advisor, and discuss the summer Reading as Inquiry book.
Don’t be surprised if complete strangers—current students, professors, even Michigan Tech President Glenn Mroz—start grabbing boxes from your car and lugging them to your room for you on move-in day. It’s what we do.
